Critical Thinking & Essay Writing Course (for Chinese Students, Ages 16–18)

Success at leading Western universities—whether in the UK or North America—requires the ability to think critically and communicate ideas with clarity. Yet many students begin their studies without a strong foundation in argumentation and academic writing.

This 10-week course, taught by an experienced Oxford or Cambridge tutor, is designed to bridge that gap. Through weekly online seminars, regular assignments, and close guidance, students learn how to construct persuasive arguments, write with precision, and engage confidently in academic discussion.

The programme culminates in a final essay, giving students the opportunity to showcase their progress. Students may choose to submit this essay as part of their university application, demonstrating not only intellectual ability but also readiness to thrive in a Western academic environment. Students may choose to submit their final essay for publication in an academic journal.*

By the end of the course, students will have gained the critical thinking and communication skills essential for success—not just at university, but in every area of academic and professional life.

*Note that we cannot guarantee that a student’s work will be accepted for publication.

Academic Enrichment Programme (Ages 16–18)
Summer Term: May–June

Our Academic Enrichment Programme offers ambitious students the opportunity to explore a subject of their choice (philosophy, politics and theology) in small, discussion-driven seminars taught by Oxbridge lecturers (with an exceptional 1:3 lecturer-to-student ratio).

As part of the application process, students are required to submit an essay. Those entering The Lyceum Essay Prize may submit the same work for consideration.

Beyond subject immersion, the programme places a strong emphasis on developing academic writing. Each student refines their skills with the goal of producing an essay suitable for publication in an academic journal.*

This course is designed for students who wish to deepen their intellectual curiosity, sharpen their critical thinking, and strengthen their university applications through both academic achievement and published work.

*Note that we cannot guarantee that a student’s work will be accepted for publication.
